Driver hijacked and kidnapped at N12 crossing near Fochville

Motorists must be alert that hijackings are again occurring on the N12.

The police in Fochville are investigating a hijacking incident in the area this week.

As far as could be determined, a resident (35) of Potchefstroom was returning to Potch from Johannesburg on the N12 at about 18:00 on October 1.

As he neared the four-way crossing with the R500, he saw an unknown black vehicle behind him.
The vehicle then pulled up next to him, and the driver indicated that he had to stop.

As the victim stopped his silver Volkswagen Polo Vivo, a man inside the other vehicle pointed a firearm at him. Four men jumped from the other vehicle and grabbed him.

Although the victim tried to fight them off, they assaulted him and managed to overpower him.
They tied his hands with sellotape and forced him into the black vehicle.

The hijackers turned around and drove back towards Johannesburg. They took the injured victim’s cellphone and money and dropped him off near West End Bricks near Zuurbekom.

His Polo, which was fitted with a satellite tracking device, was later recovered in Soweto. It was, however, already stripped and burned.
