Panel van driver hijacked on P111 near Carletonville

The panel van is still missing.

A 62-year-old printing company employee was hijacked this week on the P111 road between Carletonville and Westonaria.

Driving his employer’s Ford Transit panel van towards Carletonville on October 1, the man noticed a vehicle with flashing lights approaching from behind as he passed Corobrik at about 16:30.

Believing there was a problem with his vehicle, he pulled over to check it.

Shortly after stopping, a green Mercedes-Benz pulled up nearby.

Three unknown men got out of the car, walked over to the driver and threatened him with a firearm. The attackers forced him into the Mercedes-Benz and drove away with him.

The victim was later abandoned at the Evaton graveyard. He managed to secure help from a passer-by and reported the ordeal to the police.

At the time of going to press, the stolen panel van remained missing.
