Damaged lamp pole in Greenspark a huge danger

The municipality did not say when the problem with be sorted out.

People staying in Greenspark are worried that a damaged lamp post might topple over completely.

According to residents, the pole, situated in Fisant Street near Tarentaal Street, was damaged during a storm about a month ago.

Although it is in the town’s main street and on the way to the municipal library as well as Greenspark Primary School, no one has done anything about the issue.

“What will happen if this pole falls on a child?” a passer-by remarked during the Herald’s visit to the site on September 30.

Although the Herald asked the municipality’s marketing and communications manager Temba Fezani for feedback, none was received by printing time.

The municipality did, however, confirm last week that it has a maintenance programme for public lighting.

New lights, both solar and conventional LED lights, shall be installed in Merafong through government energy efficiency programmes.

It is, however, not clear when the damaged light in Greenspark will be fixed.
