Wedela shop owners help massacre victims

The police in Wedela also assisted.

In a heartfelt act of kindness and solidarity, shop owners in Wedela came together to donate food parcels to families who lost their loved ones in the tragic mass shooting in the town last month.

According to Constable Morera Mkhonto of the police in Wedela, the initiative reflects the spirit of unity and compassion within the Wedela community, as local business owners joined hands to support bereaved families during a difficult and painful time.

The food parcels were handed over to the affected households as a gesture of care, support and solidarity, offering some relief to families as they continue to cope with the loss of their loved ones.

Captain Wayne Pestana, the station commander of the Wedela Police Station, was present during the handover, demonstrating support for the initiative and the community’s efforts to stand together in the aftermath of the tragedy.

According to Mkhonto, the contribution by the shop owners highlights the important role local businesses can play in supporting communities during times of grief and hardship.

“Their willingness to come together for a meaningful cause demonstrates the power of collective action and the importance of standing alongside those experiencing loss. As the affected families continue to navigate this difficult period, the donation serves as a message of hope and reassurance that they are not alone,” Mkhonto added.

“Through their generosity, the Wedela shop owners have shown that acts of kindness and community solidarity can make a meaningful difference in the lives of those affected by tragedy.

The initiative serves as a reminder that, even in the face of devastating loss, communities can unite to provide practical assistance, offer comfort, and bring hope to those in need,” concluded Mkhonto.
