Toyota bakkie hijacked near Carletonville

The driver was kidnapped and dropped off in the Randfontein area.

Another Toyota Hilux bakkie has been targeted by carjackers on the P111 road near Carletonville this week.

A 66-year-old resident was driving his white Toyota Hilux D-4D bakkie along the P111 road on October 29. As he passed Corobrik at around 11:15, a white Volvo hatchback carrying four people pulled up beside him. A rear-seat passenger pointed a firearm at the driver and ordered him to pull over.

The driver brought his vehicle to a halt, and the armed criminals approached him to announce the hijacking.

They forced him into the Volvo, tied his hands together, and covered his face. The hijackers then drove away with him, stole his cellphone, and eventually released him by the roadside.

After freeing his hands and removing the cover from his face, the victim began walking to seek assistance. While speaking with people he encountered on the road, he flagged down a Randfontein Police vehicle passing by.

The officers listened to his account and drove him to the Car-letonville Police Station for further help.
Local police are currently investigating cases of hijacking and kidnapping.
