A 23-year-old man went up to the top of the Carletonville Police Station and stabbed himself repeatedly before hanging himself from a belt on Sunday 25 October. The drama in Gold Street in the CBD unfolded in front of shocked policemen after the man gained entry from the back of the building. When he saw them, he started shouting from above and stabbing himself with a sharp object. He then proceeded to hang himself from the steel staircase. By the time they got to him to stop him, it was already too late. According to the communications officer Mr Peter Masooa, the man was not
a client as was unknown to the police. He was certified dead when the paramedics arrived and was later identified as Phanduxolo Nondala.
