A domestic worker was held up during a house robbery in Coronation Street in Carletonville on 13 March. The complainant said she was about to go back into the house when someone came from behind and covered her mouth with a hand and pointed a firearm at her. The suspect, who was wearing a balaclava, pushed her into the house and she noticed that there were two more suspects with him. She begged them not to kill her and they assured her that they were just looking for what they wanted. They pushed her into the toilet, tied a towel around her mouth and tied her hands and feet up with shoelaces. They then closed the door behind them and she could hear their voices as they moved through the house and helped themselves to the contents. When it became quiet, she managed to open the door with her elbow and press the panic button. She looked through the window and saw a red vehicle pulling off in the driveway. The suspects fled with jewellery, electronic equipment and a rifle with a total value of around R571 400.
