Licensing offices open again

Residents of the Merafong City Local Municipality area who have to renew their driver’s or vehicle licences can do so from now on.

The offices were closed during the Covid-19 lockdown. While there are extensions for renewing licences, residents can start using these ser- vices once again.
The Merafong City Local Munici- pality confirmed on Monday that the municipal licensing offices are open and operational. “The testing station is not yet open; the offices will be open from the beginning of July.
“The municipality, in conjunction with the provincial department, has ensured that it is fully compliant with the Covid-19 regulations. We have made sure that clients and staff will be safe in the work environment,” a municipal spokesperson said.
Meanwhile, all learner’s, driver’s and temporary driver’s licences, motor vehicle licence discs, temporary and professional driving permits and roadworthy certificates, that expired between 26 March and 31 May are still deemed to be valid for 90 days from 1 June. The only exception is motor trade number licences, which will not expire within six months of 1 June.
