Cable in Gars Street still not fixed

This issue is an emergency waiting to happen.

The Merafong City Local Municipality continues to ignore a low-hanging electrical cable over a street in Fochville despite similar cables causing problems elsewhere.

Residents of Gars Street have complained about a municipal electrical cable hanging dangerously low over this street for the past year. The cable is next to the complex at No. 19 and hangs so low over the street that it could catch the top of a bus or truck if the driver does not know to look out for it.

In August last year, the municipality had to do emergency repairs after a similarly unstable municipal cable at the corner of Mimosa Road and Suikerbos Street in Fochville toppled onto the street, closing it to traffic. Meanwhile, the municipality also fixed a cable on 5th Street in Welverdiend, where a similar problem occurred last month.

Although the municipality previously promised to fix the cable on Gars Street, it has still not resolved the problem.

The municipality’s marketing and communications manager, Mr Temba Fezani, did not answer related questions this week.
