Dumped baby diapers shame continues
The suspicious activity of a man who was being tailed by Moffatview CPF officer, Don Hooper, led to the find on Risi Avenue, Linmeyer.
LINMEYER – On January 13 the CHRONICLE reported an incident that occurred in Linmeyer which upset residents about the waste of tens of baby diapers dumped under a tree.
Five big bags packed full of unused disposable baby nappies were found by Moffatview Community Policing Forum’s Don Hooper under a tree opposite the Lighthouse Stimulation Centre for children with cerebral palsy.
Over a week later, after the dumping issue was reported to the Moffatview SAPS, it has yet to be determined who the culprit behind the dumping was, and no one around the area has seen the offender.
Even though the dumped diapers were said to be rejects, it is believed that many poor parents could have benefited from usable ones, even though they did not have the sticky elastic that holds the diaper together.
Moffatview Community Policing Forum revealed that there have been a number of women coming to Risi Avenue to claim all salvageable diapers, although many were left behind as most had been damaged by the recent rainy weather.
According to Moffatview CPF, Don Hooper, the big bags which had the diapers inside, were emptied out and possibly taken by the vagrants who use the material to build their shacks.
The SAPS and JMPD are reportedly still not getting involved in dealing with the illegal dumping incident and residents say that this problem has been left to the community to sort out.
