JRA plugs the road holes
Roads receive much needed attention after public outcry about potholes and low-lying bridges.
JOHANNESBURG SOUTH – The Johannesburg Roads Agency (JRA) maintenance workers have been seen around the South attending to potholes, which have been an annoying feature on the roads.
A fund of R60 million was set aside to repair damages to roads and low-lying bridges in Johannesburg, with R23 million set aside for repairing increasing potholes.
Although some residents have argued that the effort by JRA is long overdue, they have welcomed the Gauteng Roads Emergency Road Campaign Initiative to fix damage to roads caused by heavy rain.
The workers, who were all smiles as they fixed a residential street in Ormonde, said that repairs are under way in many Johannesburg South areas, and they have been very busy attending to grievances by road users.
JRA workers have been cleaning the Olifantsvlei low-lying bridge on Swartkoppies to make sure no blockage takes place resulting in flooding. The N12 and Golden Highway are part of the high priority roads to be rehabilitated and upgraded.
The Roads Department budget reportedly would not be tolled to cover the costs.
