GLENVISTA – “What about our children who are studying for their matric exams and writing tomorrow?” This after the power went off from 18:00 until gone 22:00.
According to City Power, two Substation Transformers went down on Monday evening which caused a massive power outage, not only in the South but also the North, with many suburbs left in the dark.
According to an update from Eskom load shedding hasn’t begun yet. “If customers experience power outages during this period, we advise that they contact their electricity providers as it could be a localised problem.
“The risk of load shedding has reduced significantly and the prognosis for the week is better than expected. The system will be under extreme pressure on Wednesday and Thursday as the water reserves that we built up over the weekend for our peaking plants will be depleted.
Eskom is pleased to announce that work at Majuba Power Station has progressed better than anticipated.Teams have worked non-stop since the incident on Saturday and have been able to connect coal feeder units which have enabled us to ramp up the supply from 600MW to 1 200 MW.
“Eskom would like to thank customers who have heeded the call to use electricity sparingly. Once again, we appeal to consumers to reduce their electricity usage throughout the day, but especially from 18:00 to 22:00.”
A Glenvista resident said, “Eskom needs to jack up its service. In 2008 they said they knew there were problems and now it’s 2014! What have they done in six years?”
On Tuesday morning November 4, another power outage hit parts of the South and North, leaving them “powerless”.
According to Ward 54 councillor, Sergio dos Santos, on Tuesday at 10:30, “Power is slowly being restored to many areas but now reports are coming in of lack of water in some suburbs.”
