Her latest book, Forget-Me –Nots, is beautifully illustrated and filled with old photographs of Severa’s family, as well as anecdotes about her life and growing up in the South of Johannesburg.

SEVERA Rech Cassarino was born in Italy and came to South Africa with her mother, Mirella, and grandmother, Adele when she was four years old, a year after her father Attilio arrived here.

Severa was brought up in the South of Johannesburg and this is where she still lives today, in Linmeyer.

Family life for Severa was a wonderful time and she grew up in an extremely creative home; her father a master craftsman; her brother, Silvio an award winning architect; her sister, Carla a talented actress. She herself was schooled in the South at St Rose’s Convent in La Rochelle where she matriculated.

She met Ernesto, her husband, while studying art at Wits University and they married in 1972. They have one son, Cesare who is a musician, and a beautiful granddaughter, Frida aged eight.

Severa has many talents, including, art media, writing and the exquisite jewellery she makes and sells.

Her latest book, Forget-Me-Nots, is beautifully illustrated and filled with old photographs of Severa’s family, as well as anecdotes about her life and growing up in the South of Johannesburg.

“Commonality with groups and migrants wherever they come from makes this a book for everyone and it’s filled with amusing tales set in the South,” said Severa.

Severa is currently trying to find a publisher for her book but copies can be bought directly from her for R350. Phone her on 011 435 1821 or 083 267 3487.
