Miss Earth South Africa in full spring swing
Celebrating Arbour Day and Spring Day with the Miss Earth team.
The Miss Earth South Africa team planted four Pepper Bark trees (Warburgia Salutaris) with the Miss Earth Johannesburg delegates at Houghton School in celebration of Arbour Day and Spring Day.
In 2020, Miss Earth South Africa planted five fruit trees, which have already blossomed and are ready for summer.
To ensure the longevity of these trees, the organisation used Aquagel, a soil enhancer, to lock in nutrients and moisture during planting. 3Sixty compost was also added as it is full of micro and macronutrients that are essential for soil health and tree growth. The compost is made from quality organic materials that are weed free and environmentally friendly.
“Lucy Larcom, once said, ‘She who plants a tree, plants hope, and this is the hope and life we need in our schools and our communities,” said director Catherine Constantinides.
Savannah Zaki from Meyersdal said she was so excited to be part of the festivities of the day and to be part of the Miss Earth South Africa Leadership Programme.
“I’ve always admired what Ella Bella and Catherine Constantinides have created through the Miss Earth campaign. I have grown up always wanting to be a part of these Earth Warriors, and now I am,” she said.
Miss Earth South Africa will announce their ambassador at the Houghton Hotel at the end of September, after which the Ambassador will travel to the Philippines in October to represent South Africa at the Miss Earth International Event.
