Help Valhalla MMA and Fitness athletes compete in Abu-Dhabi

With the International Mixed Martial Arts Federation World Youth Tournament around the corner, six of the youth from Valhalla MMA & Fitness and coach Shane Carr have been selected to represent the country.

Mixed Martial Arts South Africa has put forth a list of 44 MMA athletes to represent South Africa in the International Mixed Martial Arts Federation World Youth Tournament to be hosted in Abu-Dhabi from August 2 to 5.

Earlier in May the Mixed Martial Arts Youth National Trials were held in Johannesburg to secure the best South Africa has to offer as part of the travelling team.

Teams from provinces across the country brought the best of their youth to compete for the top spots in the SA youth team.

According to coach Shane Carr of Valhalla MMA & Fitness, the sport is not government or organisation funded.

He said each athlete will need to secure their own funds through donations and sponsorships to cover the costs of competing at the tournament.

“Mixed Martial Arts South Africa is also at work to gather much-needed funds through donations and sponsorships to assist the squad as best they can. Of the athletes who have secured their spot on the SA team, six of them are from Valhalla MMA & Fitness,” he explained.

In the C 12-13 years division, they are Teagan Snyman, Zohann Lubbe, Josef Moosa and Wayden Wolmarans and in the B 14-15 years division, Amy Matthews has been selected. Coenie Lamprecht got the nod in the A 16-17 years division.

Mixed Martial Arts South Africa has also appointed three coaches who will travel with the team to Abu-Dhabi.

“Coaching and familiarising with the athletes’ strengths inside the cage is a vital position to hold, alongside making sure the travelling youth are safe and the logistics of the team are adhered to. The individuals appointed as coaches are me along with Charl van Tonder (Gauteng) and Lyndall Sandenbergh,” Carr said.

He said any assistance towards their Abu-Dhabi trip would be greatly appreciated.

“If you or your business can help with any donations or sponsorships for the entire team or any of the individuals based here in Alberton as listed above, please contact me directly on shane@valhallammasa.co.za or on 083 7222 704,” he said.
