It was a national tournament in which all provinces competed, and it was the final deciding tournament for the final selections for the all African Games.

Young karateka and Trinityhouse Glenvista learner Brogan Taylor (18) represented Gauteng in the Arnold Schwarzenegger Sports Festival Africa 2023 at the Ruimsig Stadium in Roodepoort from May 19 to 21.

According to her mother, Leigh-Ann Taylor, it was a national tournament in which all provinces competed, and it was the final deciding tournament for the final selections for the All-African Games.

“Region 5 in Zimbabwe, which will be held from June 8 to 12, as well as the World Youth Cup, which will be held in Croatia from June 26 to July 2, are both qualifying tournaments for the Union of African Karate Federations (UFAK), which is the qualifying tournament for the World Youth Cup.

“Brogan made The Gauteng Karate Federation proud by winning a gold medal and securing her position as South Africa’s number one and a proud member of Team South Africa Karate for both of these international tournaments.

“If she comes first, second, or third in Zimbabwe, she will qualify for UFAK. To compete in the world championships, she would have to win UFAK.”

Brogan will travel to Zimbabwe on June 8 for the first time as a Protea.
