Mayor assess progress on Aerotropolis City Region

The executive mayor was pleased with the development so far.

Ekurhuleni Mayor Sivuyile Ngodwana, the MMC for City Planning and Economic Development, Nomadlozi Nkosi, and Corporate Services MMC Nkosindiphile Xhakaza spent June 2 touring the Aerotropolis City Region near OR Tambo International Airport.

The visit aimed to assess the progress of infrastructure projects in the Aerotropolis City Region. These projects are expected to have a significant impact on the local economy.

The municipal leadership were impressed with the progress made and the level of investment businesses had put into the projects.

The Aerotropolis City Region will house clusters of industry-related enterprises, including local SMMEs and multi-national companies, which will gain a competitive advantage by using the synergistic capabilities of the location.

During the visit, Ngodwana and the entourage met with the CEO of Teraco Data Environments, Jan Hnizho, to hear their concerns and strengthen the public-private partnerships and attract more investments in Ekurhuleni.

Ngodwana emphasised the importance of collaboration between the businesses and the municipality in achieving the common goal of sustainable economic development.

“Collaboration between the municipality and the private sector is critical in achieving our development goals. We are committed to creating an environment conducive to business growth and development, and we will continue to work closely with the private sector to achieve this,” Ngodwana said.

The leadership also expressed gratitude to the businesses for their confidence in investing in the area and contribution to the local economy.

The visit concluded on a positive note, with the mayor and the municipal leaders emphasising their commitment to working with the private sector to achieve sustainable economic growth in the region.
