Hoërskool Dinamika’s first team wraps rugby season on a high note

Hoërskool Dinamika’s first rugby team played 17 games in total and lost only five games, with three of those teams in a higher league than them.

Hoërskool Dinamika’s first rugby team, which comprises 10 Grade 11 and 13 Grade 12 players, have enjoyed an amazing and successful rugby season.

The team, under the watchful eye of coaches Barry Geel and Ashley Roodt, are the Golden Lions winner and also played in the semi-finals of the Winner’s Cup which was played in Rustenburg recently.

Grade 11 players are Gydeon Keevy, Ruan du Preez, Keanu Viljoen, Jonathan Rebelo, Dylan Feenstra, Kyke Young, Joshua Eqwatu, Shawlynne Mienies, JP Grebe and Dwayne Roodt.

Roodt said: “We had a North-West University’s (NWU) Series in the start of the year. We finished first, going unbeaten. We then played in the Golden Lions league, which we won. We played against Randburg in the finals, beating them 23-15.”

They further went on to play in the Noordvaal rugby tournament, which saw all the schools north from the Vaal River taking part.

Roodt said they played against HTS Witbank in a round of 16, beating them 19-8, subsequently progressing to play in the quarter-finals.

“Just recently we beat Ellisras 16-15, but unfortunately this past weekend we fell out in the semi-finals in Rustenburg. We had a very good season overall. Our left wing Jayden Serfontein scored 18 tries,” explained Geel.

He reiterated that they had a good journey, not only for the first team but for Hoërskool Dinamika rugby.

“We had four of our eight teams in the finals of the Golden Lions league. We had a tough start at the beginning. We played four schools that are in a higher league than us in preparation for the league and we won two out of those matches, while others were extremely close,” Geel said.

With the rugby season over, they are now looking forward to more successful games ahead in the new season.
