Car accident in Alberton claims Charlette’s life

Condolences continue to pour in for the Stols family after losing Charlette ‘Charlie’ Stols in a car accident on October 27 in Alberton North.

On the morning before the accident took her life, Charlette Stols took a long glance at her dad, Deon Stols, before taking off. It was as if she was saying her last goodbye.

Charlette Stols’ parents were devastated to hear of their daughter’s passing at the accident scene after colliding with a white taxi on October 27 on Second Avenue, Alberton North.

Community members gathered to honour her memory and say their last goodbyes at Doxa Deo Meyersdal.
The Alberton SAPS have launched an investigation.

According to Charlette’s mother, Gail Stols, she died after losing control of her vehicle and hitting a ditch.

“By trying to gain control of the car, she couldn’t control it and collided with a taxi. This was according to a statement provided by the guy who was with her in the car who survived but sustained injuries. The taxi actually stopped them. Otherwise, they could’ve landed inside the church building,” she explained.

There were reportedly six passengers in the taxi, and fortunately, no passengers or the driver sustained major injuries.

‘An angel in the family’

Charlette was known in Alberton by many chuckle-worthy words. She was an outgoing person who always filled a room with laughter and smiles. She led a busy yet impactful life.

The Diversity High School alumnus previously worked at Vodacom in Mall at Newmarket and had just started work at MTN in Mall Of The South as a sales consultant.

Testament to her dedication, she had just been promoted to manager and was to start her managerial duties next month.

“Having spent time with friends and family in places like the Alberton Rugby Club, she would bring out the best in everyone she spent time with. She was always there for everyone and had a beautiful relationship with her clients,” explained her sister, Claudette Stols.

“She worked extremely hard and always helped others. She was very loved by her friends, family and those who knew her. We appreciate everyone for supporting us through this difficult time. Though she is gone, she will never be forgotten. She made us proud, and she’ll always be in our hearts,” she said.

After giving Charlette the memorial service she deserved, her family is asking for financial donations to help cover the cost of her funeral.

“We weren’t able to raise as much funds as we needed. However, Charlette’s best childhood friend, Kim Grammer, who also stays with my parents, managed to get a loan of R27 000 to assist us in paying for the funeral since she didn’t have a funeral policy. We now need to get that loan paid up, and we would appreciate any assistance,” Claudette said.

Charlette’s ashes will go into a wall of remembrance.
