5 suspects in South Hills murder return to court
Charges include murder, firearm, and drug offences, with the case postponed and one minor accused remanded in custody.
The five suspects in the South Hills murder case appeared in the Booysens Magistrate’s Court on January 21, and the case was postponed to March 30.
The charges in this case include murder, unlawful possession of a firearm and ammunition, and drugs.
The defence of both accused 2 and accused 4 withdrew their services, citing money problems, although the defence of accused 4 will stay on record, depending on whether the accused raises the money needed.
As for accused 3, his defence was not in court, and the accused indicated that he still wants him to represent him.
The mother of the fifth accused, who is a minor, was also not in court. The court heard that she was afraid to come to court because of the shooting on January 20.

With that said, Magistrate Habib remanded him in custody, stating that his mother was supposed to be in court every time he appeared, as he was still to apply for bail.
Habib also warned the accused to come to court without their family members, because even if this case was not confirmed as gang-related, precautionary measures must be in place.
Two items are still outstanding: the post-mortem report and the photo album.
All accused were warned to return to court on the next appearance date, and their bail was extended, except for accused 5, who was remanded in custody.
