Mayberry Park resident Nokukhanya makes her community greener
The tree planting initiative is a breath of fresh air for the Alberton community.
Mayberry Park resident Nokukhanya Zwane is passionate about plants and Earth and has become an advocator for the tree planting initiative associated with the Miss Earth South Africa empowerment programme.
Zwane is a delegate for this initiative and must plant 20 trees indigenous to SA around Johannesburg south.
“I’m invested in helping the environment, community and planet,” said Zwane.
“This programme is important to me because I can help the environment and empower my community,” she continued.
Zwane chose to plant her trees at schools in the south of Johannesburg, including Alberton and Brackenhurst. She planted her last two brush cherry trees at Hoërskool Marais Viljoen, which was kind enough to join in the initiative and help the environment in the long term. Zwane covered the trees’ cost along with generous donations from her colleagues and family members.
“I advocate for a greener, cleaner and sustainable planet,” said Zwane.
She has helped her community’s environment through tree planting and, hopefully, encouraged other residents to do the same. As a delegate, she will soon compete in the Miss Earth South Africa pageant.
Community members such as Zwane and the schools in the community deserve recognition for ensuring the environment is at its earthly best.
