Mondeor cleanup done by CAT team

Action for Accountability embarked on an area cleanup in Mondeor.

The Mondeor Civic Action Team (CAT) cleaned up at the Mondeor Recreation Centre on September 28.

The Ahmed Kathrada Foundation and Miss Earth South Africa partnered with Action for Accountability to organise a spring cleaning of the area and stream behind the recreation centre. The team also cleaned the stream running through Cortayne Park.

A few residents of Mondeor joined CAT and helped in the cleanup. Trane Paragadu community activist and media liaison for CAT spoke about this clean-up and what the group does.

“We chose to clean the area around the recreation centre as it needed attention, especially the two streams where dirt had gathered.

“CAT as a group tries to focus on the service delivery issues in Mondeor, such as fixing potholes, cleaning up litter, and maintaining public places like the recreation centre and parks. We also successfully got Rand Water to sort out some water issues,” said Paragadu.

A few residents came out to help with the cleanup and made great progress.

“It was hard to mobilise people but we are with the turn-out today and thank all those who helped. The CAT team will try to continue these programs until the end of the year,” Paragadu said.

The stream behind the Mondeor Recreation center looks cleaner after the efforts of the team.
