Children’s home outlines finances at AGM

St Mary's Children's Home held its 122nd AGM.

St Mary’s Children’s Home held its AGM on October 17. In attendance were their board members, sponsors and stakeholders in the home.

Key issues discussed were the financial outlook of the home and the need for cash donations to maintain and improve the home.

CEO of St Mary’s Home Sonja Harmse spoke about what St Mary’s needs and why the AGM was important.

“Financial issues are top of the agenda. We still need help in maintaining our home. Although we have sponsors and help from the government we need more as we get more kids via the courts,” said Harmse.

“We want to let people know that no donation is too small or too big and we thank all those who help us,” she continued.

Advocate Mancha Manaka spoke about how the home needs legal representation.

“St Mary’s Home requires legal help as it needs representation regarding issues with the municipality,” said Manaka.

Phil Geyer, St Mary’s treasurer gave his report on the audited financial statement of the home.

“The statement of comprehensive income showed a deficit even though there were many donations. If the deficit continues in the new financial year then the home could be at risk of closing,” said Geyer.

“The home simply requires more help,” he continued.
