Thaba Eco Hotel supports environmental awareness and the creative arts
Their stunning mural not only breathes new life into the structure but also conveys a powerful message about environmental stewardship and community spirit.
Thaba Eco Hotel is proud to announce the successful completion of an exciting community-driven art initiative that transformed an old concrete water reservoir tank at the Thaba Eco Park into an inspiring new feature for visitors.
To encourage artistic expression and celebrate local wildlife, Thaba launched an art mural competition, inviting talented youth to showcase their skills.
The competition garnered attention from local and out-of-province schools, including Ben Viljoen High School in Groblersdal, where art teacher, Mareli de Klerk encouraged her learners to participate. Moshopiadi Nchabeleng (16) stood out with her captivating design, ultimately winning the competition with her vibrant depiction of Thaba’s wildlife.
As part of her prize, Moshopiadi, alongside her classmate Ankia Blok, her mother Lillian, and teacher Hannelie Blok, were treated to a three-night stay at Thaba Eco Hotel.
The group, guided by Thaba Eco Park’s environmental manager Travis Askham, worked diligently over two days to bring Moshopiadi’s mural to life. With the generous support of Versus Paint and Hamilton’s, who sponsored the painting materials, the team completed the mural that now adds a stunning artistic touch to the Eco Park.
On their first day, the group was warmly welcomed by the Thaba team and enjoyed meals at the Kraal Restaurant, balancing work and relaxation throughout their stay.
Moshopiadi and her team divided their painting sessions into manageable tasks, allowing them to finish the mural on time, all while enjoying the natural beauty of the park and hotel surroundings.
Askham said: “We extend our humble thanks to Moshopiadi and her team for their outstanding work. We see great things ahead for both Moshopiadi and Ankia and wish them all the success they deserve.
“To fully protect natural environments and its wildlife, it is important to encourage community-based projects, like this. In cities where people often feel disconnected from nature, it helps bring about an awareness and appreciation for our natural world.”
The hotel is thrilled to have hosted such an inspiring initiative, and the team is proud of Moshopiadi’s incredible work. The mural not only beautifies the park but also brings awareness to the importance of community involvement in environmental preservation.
By encouraging young artists and supporting local schools, Thaba continues its mission to celebrate nature, art, and community spirit.
“As we look ahead, Thaba Eco Hotel hopes to continue fostering creativity and environmental appreciation through similar projects. We extend our gratitude to all who participated and helped make this mural project a success. Special thanks go to Moshopiadi and her team for their outstanding contribution,” highlighted Thaba Eco Hotel chief excellence officer Kirsty Marais.
