New Archbishop installed in Johannesburg Archdiocese
Archbishop installed as the new spiritual leader of the Archdiocese of Johannesburg.
The Archdiocese of Johannesburg welcomed its new spiritual leader, Archbishop Stephen Brislin, on January 26.
The installation ceremony took place at St Benedict’s College in Germiston, marking a significant milestone for the Catholic community in Johannesburg.
Archbishop Brislin succeeds Buti Tlhagale who was the previous Archbishop and will now lead the Archdiocese of Johannesburg.

The clergy members of St Patrick’s Church in Rosettenville were at the ceremony to show their support for the new Archbishop who was once part of the church.
Members of the St John Bosco Catholic Church in Robertsham also came to the installation as Cardinal Breslin has been an honorary member of the Church for many years.
Cardinal Brislin was born in Welkom in the Free State. He then became the Bishop of Kroonstad and served in this role from 2006 to 2009.

He went on to be created Cardinal by Pope Francis in 2023.
The installation ceremony was attended by dignitaries, clergy, and members of the Catholic community from all around South Africa, all gathered to witness the historic event and offer their support to the new archbishop.
