Darkness descends on The Hill
Residents of The Hill are fed up with non-stop power outages.
Residents of The Hill, a suburb south of Johannesburg, are at their wits’ end because of persistent power outages that have plagued the area for two weeks.
Despite implementing load-shedding and load-reduction, the community has experienced relentless rolling blackouts. Residents are angry and disgruntled, with many frustrated at the lack of progress in resolving the issue.
City Power officials were called out to address the problem, but their efforts have not yet yielded results.
The prolonged outages have disrupted daily life, causing inconvenience and distress to residents.

The community want urgent action to resolve the issue and restore a stable power supply. Until then, residents of The Hill will continue to suffer in the dark.
“I’ve been informed that there are three reasons for the outages. First, planned maintenance at the Wemmerpan Substation is underway, affecting parts of The Hill and other suburbs. Second, a trip occurred after load-shedding in Block 12, leaving parts of The Hill and Rosettenville without power. Last, City Power is experiencing a backlog due to last week’s rain and recent load-shedding, which has hindered their ability to do repairs. I have notified City Power and will keep residents updated,” said Clr Michael Crichton of Ward 56.
