Today, April 3, the City of Johannesburg hosted the official inauguration ceremony for the Chief of Johannesburg Metropolitan Police Department (JMPD), Commissioner Patrick Jaca, at the Johannesburg stadium.
The inauguration comes after the City of Johannesburg Mayor Dada Morero announced that Patrick Jaca is the new chief of police for JMPD in February.

Under Chief Patrick Jaca, JMPD will focus on visible policing, enforcing bylaws, and fighting corruption. The mayor wants officers to be present in communities, making Johannesburg safer. He emphasized that the police badge should represent pride, not fear, and officers must serve with integrity.

Jaca’s appointment comes at a crucial time, and while challenges lie ahead, the administration, officers, and residents stand together. The mayor promised to take back the city, protect communities, and enforce the law to make Johannesburg a safer and prouder place.
