Parkinson’s Support Group gets together for morning out
The charity NPO supported members of the Parkinson’s Support Group.
The Sue Lubbe & Friends charity group and the Spur Little Eagle in Alberton recently hosted a luncheon for a few members of the Parkinson’s Support Group in Glenvista.
The event held a surprise from one of the SA’s beautiful women, Desiree Oliphant, a semi-finalist for Mrs South Africa 2025 and one of Alberton’s fair maidens.

Oliphant has a wealth of knowledge about social media platforms and wants to form a bond with the support group to elevate the awareness of Parkinson’s disease, dementia and other associated illnesses.
She said her father has dementia.
“I am inspired, and this comes from my heart, given that my father, Reginald Kenneth Hilman, a professional boxer and international boxing promoter in SA, also suffers from dementia at 77 years old,” she said.
“Often, when one is diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease, for that matter, any other such disease, one searches for understanding or more knowledge of why and what to expect next. The patient often does not know the answers to many questions, so this is when support groups and charity organisations like Sue Lubbe & Friends try to break the mould by increasing awareness of such diseases like Parkinson’s and dementia,” she added.
The Sue Lubbe & Friends charity group started its annual Stay Warm Day campaign when they asked for food, soup fillers, warm clothing, blankets and treats.
The next Parkinson’s Support Group meeting is on June 14 from 14:00 to 16:00 in the Renaissance Village Hall, Glenvista.
