WATCH: Mulbarton Mosque opens its doors in a spirit of unity and warmth

Through this Open Day friendships were build and much more understanding among the society.

Masjid Nusaybah in Mulbarton came alive with an atmosphere of excitement, curiosity and warmth as the Muslim community hosted its first-ever mosque open day on August 16.

The event drew residents of all faiths and backgrounds, eager to step inside the beautiful mosque on True North Road and learn more about the role it plays in the community.

From the moment guests arrived, they were welcomed with smiles, refreshments and a spirit of togetherness. The programme included guided tours, presentations on the history and purpose of mosques, and opportunities for open discussion. Many visitors admitted that their perceptions changed during the event.

“We wanted people to see beyond the walls and experience what really happens here,” explained Imam Mufti Husain Ahmed Koya. “This was about building trust, sharing knowledge and breaking stereotypes.”

Prior to the open day, congregants were humorously encouraged. “Maybe you didn’t invite your neighbours to your daughter’s wedding,” one joked, “but at least invite them to the mosque for this social event!”

Guests particularly enjoyed the engaging presentation on Islamic practices, which dispelled common misconceptions. They left with thoughtful gifts and memorabilia, but most importantly, with new friendships and a deeper sense of community.

“This open day was about more than tours and talks,” said Ahmed Bhyat. “It was about building bridges of understanding that will last well beyond today.”

The mosque has long been active in serving the wider community, from distributing food hampers and blankets, arranging medical days to offering free borehole water during shortages. This history of service added even more meaning to the day’s success.

Encouraged by the overwhelmingly positive response, the organisers confirmed plans to host future open days.

They also extended an open invitation to schools, companies, families and individuals to arrange special tours.
