Glenvista residents frustrated with leaking water meters

Leaking water meters in Glenvista need attention.

Leaking water meters, which are causing floods, are frustrating Glenvista residents.

The issue has been ongoing, with many residents reporting significant water loss and damage to their properties.

Resident Thembi Mdaka said, “I’ve been dealing with a leaking water meter for weeks, and it’s been a nightmare. The water is overflowing, and I’m worried about the damage it is causing to my home.”

Joburg Water officials acknowledge the issue and are addressing it.

“We apologise for the inconvenience caused by the leaking water meters,” said Johannesburg Water spokesperson Nombuso Shabalala.

“We urge residents to report any leaks to us immediately so we can send a team to fix the issue,” she continued.

In some cases, fixing a water meter leak is the homeowner’s responsibility, while in others it falls to the water authority. If the leak is in the water meter or pipes leading from the street, the authority is responsible.

To prevent water meter leaks, residents can regularly inspect their meters, tighten loose connections, and protect their meters from extreme weather conditions.

If a leak is detected, residents should turn off the water supply immediately and report the issue to Joburg Water.

Residents can report leaks to the Joburg Call Centre on 0860 562 874 or 0860-JOBURG, or phone Joburg Water on 011 688 1500.
