Mulbarton kidnapping case: Case is postponed for further disclosure

The defense and prosecution will discuss the charges against the accused before the case proceeds.

A joint operation by law enforcement led to the rescue of 12 boys and the arrest of a foreign national suspected of kidnapping on January 5.

The accused appeared in the Booysens Magistrate’s Court on July 2.

The case was then remanded for further legal process.

The charge against the accused will be in accordance with Section 42 of the South African Immigration Act, which strictly prohibits aiding, abetting, assisting, or enabling an illegal foreigner to stay, work, or operate a business in the country.

The State requested that the matter be remanded for disclosure.

However, the disclosure process was not completed. Both the defence and prosecution were not clear on what evidence will be presented by both parties.

Magistrate Mashitse then granted a fifth consecutive postponement in the case.

The case will resume on September 29.
