Strong Women of Johannesburg South honoured
Mondeor SAPS and CPF celebrate the everyday heroes who are building safer, stronger communities in the South.
Mondeor SAPS and the Mondeor CPF recently hosted the Strong Women of the South Awards at The View in Olifantsvlei, celebrating the women who tirelessly work to make Johannesburg South a safer and stronger community.
The event brought together local residents, police officers, and community leaders for a day of recognition and inspiration.

The initiative was inspired by a courageous woman who, 10 years ago, bravely overpowered armed criminals.
In honour of her strength, Mondeor SAPS station commander JJ Bezuidenhoudt decided to recognise the women of the southern suburbs who work closely with SAPS to combat crime and support victims.

“You are powerful beyond measure,” said Sergeant Elizabeth Mnguni during the ceremony. “Whether you are leading from the front, supporting your family, mentoring others, or standing up for what’s right, you are making a difference.
“This event celebrates not only visible achievements but also the quiet strength, everyday courage, and deep compassion you bring into our communities.”

She continued, emphasising the importance of women’s contributions: “Your voice matters, your safety matters, and your dreams matter. The police and community leaders are not just here to protect; we are here to partner with you. Together, we are stronger. Together, we build safer, more united communities where every woman is seen, respected, and empowered.”

The day was not only a celebration of women’s achievements but also a reminder of the far-reaching impact of their individual actions in inspiring change.

The awards highlighted the vital role women play in supporting safety and justice within the community. Whether as police officers, community leaders, mothers, nurses, or volunteers, women are central to the fight against crime.

Through public recognition, SAPS sent a powerful message: “We see you, we value you, and we are listening.” This cultivates mutual respect and trust between the police and the community.

The event also served as an opportunity to break down barriers and connect with the community in a non-enforcement setting, offering attendees the chance to see the human side of the police beyond their uniforms.

Throughout the afternoon, the women were treated to a delicious lunch and dessert. The fun continued with a raffle draw featuring exciting prizes, and the entertainment made the event memorable.

“Women often form the backbone of their communities, offering protection, guidance, and advocacy both at home and in public spaces. In law enforcement, women bring a unique blend of strength, empathy, and communication skills that help de-escalate conflicts and build trust,” added Sergeant Mnguni.

Looking to the future, the organisers are committed to sustaining the momentum of this event.

Their plans include:
• Building ongoing partnerships between the police and women-led community groups, creating safe spaces for dialogue, feedback, and collaboration.
• Mentoring young women and girls, inspiring them to lead with courage both in law enforcement and in their communities.
• Sharing the stories of this year’s honourees through school visits, media campaigns, and community outreach, ensuring their inspiration lives on.
• Encouraging broader community involvement by inviting more women to participate in safety forums, neighbourhood watches, and police outreach initiatives.
Most importantly, the organisers want this event to be the start of a movement, not just a moment. “Every conversation, connection, and commitment made is a step towards safer, more united communities, where women are not only celebrated but empowered to lead lasting change,” they expressed.

The organisers also expressed their sincere thanks to the event’s sponsors:
