2 killed in horrific crash on R59 near Alberton

Emergency teams rushed to the scene after a car carrying four men overturned on the R59 in Alberton, leaving two dead and two others hospitalised.

Two men were killed and two others injured in a single-vehicle crash along the R59 near the Swartkoppies on-ramp in Alberton on Saturday evening, October 18.

According to the City of Ekurhuleni Emergency Services, a distress call was received around 18:00, reporting a serious accident in the area.

“Emergency services received a distress call at around 18:00 about a single-vehicle accident near the Swartkoppies on-ramp and R59 in Alberton.

“Our teams from the Alberton Fire Station responded immediately and found a vehicle that had allegedly rolled several times. Four male occupants were involved, two had been ejected during the crash, while the other two were found trapped inside the vehicle,” said City of Ekurhuleni Emergency Services spokesperson Eric Maloka.

“Sadly, the two men who were ejected were declared dead at the scene by Netcare paramedics due to severe injuries, while the remaining two were rescued and transported to hospital for further treatment.”

One patient with severe injuries was taken to Thelle Mogoerane Hospital, and another with moderate injuries was transported to Bertha Gxowa Hospital.

The Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Police Department (EMPD) secured the scene, while forensic pathology services assisted with the recovery of the two bodies.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
