Update: Alberton and Joburg south unite to support LCARA

Donations poured in from residents and local businesses as community members joined forces to help LCARA by donating food, blankets and supplies for cats and dogs in need.

The spirit of kindness and compassion was again on display in Alberton and Johannesburg south as residents rallied together to support Linmeyer Community Animal Rescue Association (LCARA).

LCARA is dedicated to providing care, food, and shelter to animals in need.

On September 1, the Alberton Record published an article announcing the launch of LCARA’s September Outreach Drive.

The initiative, run in partnership with Women Rocking Real Estate, Café Bodmin, and Free Chapel Alberton, called on the community to donate pet food, blankets, and other supplies for animals in the organisation’s care.

Dorene van Tonder and Liza Alves from Women Rocking Real Estate led the drive in collaboration with Francina van der Westhuizen from Café Bodmin, and members of Free Chapel Alberton.

Their call for support received an overwhelming response from the public. Boxes quickly filled up across various collection points in Alberton and Johannesburg south, showing that compassion knows no bounds.

“The generosity of everyone who contributed overwhelmed us. Every tin of food, blanket, and every small act of giving has made a real impact,” said Van Tonder.

LCARA expressed deep gratitude for the donations, which will help them continue their mission of rescuing, rehabilitating, and rehoming vulnerable animals.

The organisers thanked everyone who supported the cause, from those who dropped off food parcels to those who helped spread the word.

“This drive reminded us how much can be achieved when people have a shared purpose,” added Alves. “The love shown by our community has been incredible.”

Women Rocking Real Estate, Café Bodmin, and Free Chapel Alberton plan to continue supporting community-based outreach projects like this, encouraging residents to stay involved and keep spreading hope, one paw at a time.
