From survivor to protector: Claudinne Thomas leads fight against crime
After overcoming gender-based violence, Claudinne Thomas founded the Gauteng Tactical Unit to empower women and restore safety in Rosettenville and Ennerdale.
A powerful story of survival and transformation has inspired the creation of Gauteng Tactical Unit (GTU), which operates out of Rosettenville and Ennerdale.
GTU is an NPO dedicated to combating crime and restoring hope in local communities.
The founder, Claudinne Thomas, a survivor of gender-based violence, has turned her pain into purpose, transforming her experience into a catalyst for change.
Through the Gauteng Tactical Unit, she runs outreach programmes, skills development initiatives, and women empowerment workshops, providing a safe space for others who feel powerless.
“Through resilience and self-empowerment, I reclaimed my life. I invested in my growth, learned new skills, and surrounded myself with people who believed in change.
That transformation gave me a vision to create a safe space for others who felt as helpless as I did,” said Claudinne.
“This vision became the Gauteng Tactical Unit. The organisation’s mission is to turn vulnerability into strength, ensuring that no woman walks alone and every community has the tools to fight back against violence and crime,” she said.
Claudinne’s journey is a testament to the power of resilience and self-empowerment. From a victim of gender-based violence to a leader and community protector, her story serves as a beacon of hope for others, demonstrating that with determination and support, it is possible to break free from cycles of abuse and create a brighter future.
