Embrace Village opens its gates for Giving Tuesday
Visitors and supporters can donate food, gifts, or essentials to brighten the festive season for vulnerable children and families at Embrace Village.
This Giving Tuesday, Embrace Village invited friends, neighbours, and supporters to a special Open Day filled with hope and holiday spirit.
The event, held on December 2 at Embrace Village, showcased a place where vulnerable children and families find safety, healing, and belonging.
Visitors were welcomed to see what staff described as “the heart of our work in action,” including the Montessori preschool, the family-strengthening programmes, and the community gardens that nourish both body and soul.
Giving Tuesday is a global day of generosity, and the Village combined it with what they called “our local spirit of Ubuntu, the belief that ‘I am because we are.’” Guests were invited to bring a small token of love, whether a bag of maize meal, a tin of pilchards, a packet of sugar, or a Christmas gift for a child. Each offering helped brighten the festive season for families who had faced real hardship this year.
“As the year draws to a close, we wanted people to see what hope looked like and to feel part of it,” said founder of Embrace Village and TLC Children’s Centre, Pippa Jarvis.
“When people visited, they saw that their giving did not disappear into an institution. It became life and second chances.”
Visitors were treated to joyful smiles from the children, a look inside the Montessori classrooms, and the chance to meet some of the incredible people who keep the Village thriving.
The team reminded guests that whether they brought a gift, a bag of rice, or simply their presence, their kindness rippled far beyond Giving Tuesday.
For those unable to attend in person, donations can still be made via the GlobalGiving page by searching for Project #29782.
