Valentine’s Day fundraiser aims to help Gregory Morgan ease financial burden of cancer treatment
Gregory Morgan requested the community’s assistance through a raffle fundraiser as he continues his fight against multiple myeloma.
Gregory Morgan from Kibler Park is facing the toughest fight of his life after being diagnosed with a rare form of cancer.
Morgan was diagnosed with multiple myeloma, a type of blood cancer, on February 28, 2022, at Milpark Hospital. His illness developed suddenly and progressed rapidly.
“I became extremely sick. My C-reactive protein level was 591, and I was placed in the ICU for nearly three weeks,” he said.
Under the care of Dr PG Williams, further tests suggested multiple myeloma, which was later confirmed by an oncologist following a bone marrow biopsy.
Morgan began chemotherapy soon after his diagnosis. In April 2023, he was approved for an autologous stem cell transplant.
“It was an unpleasant experience, but it gave me hope,” he said.
“After the transplant, I had to continue with oral chemotherapy for almost three years.”
In October 2024, Morgan suffered a relapse and is once again undergoing treatment.
The cost of ongoing medical care, including hospital stays, doctor’s visits, medication, and related expenses, has placed severe financial strain on him and his family. These costs are beyond his current financial means.
Valentine’s Day raffle launched
To help raise funds for his treatment, Morgan is hosting a Valentine’s Day raffle fundraiser.
The prize is a luxury couple’s spa escape valued at R3 460. The experience includes flotation therapy for two, an aromatherapy full-body massage, a classic pedicure, and a luxury relaxation session.
“This is the perfect chance to spoil your partner or enjoy a well-deserved break together,” Morgan said. “More importantly, every ticket sold helps me continue my treatment and recovery.”

Raffle tickets cost R100 each. Participants can choose a lucky number and send proof of payment, along with their name, cell number, and chosen number, via WhatsApp to 061 423 7959.

Family, faith and community support keep hope alive
Despite the challenges he faces, Morgan remains hopeful and is driven by his love for his family.
“What keeps me going is the hope of spending more time with my grandchildren,” he said.
“It’s not just about me; it’s about giving myself the best chance at life.”
He admitted that asking for help had been difficult.
“I’ve always tried to be strong and handle things on my own, but this illness has been too much to carry physically, emotionally, and financially,” he said.
“Support from the community would mean more than money – it would mean hope.”
With community support, Morgan hopes to ease the financial burden so that he can focus on his recovery and spend precious time with his loved ones.
