Community urged to help find missing Oakdene teen

After weeks of searching and following every lead, Lewin Geldart’s loved ones continue to plead with the public to assist in finding the Oakdene teen.

The community is being asked to assist in the search for 19-year-old Lewin Geldart, who has been missing for nearly a month.

Lewin, from the Gleneagles, Oakdene area, was last seen on Tuesday, March 3, 2026, at around 08:00 near The Glen Shopping Centre, under the bridge.

A missing person’s case has been opened at Booysens SAPS. The O.B number is 468/03/2026 and the CAS number is 04/03/2026.

He is described as approximately 1.70m tall, with short brown hair and blue eyes. He weighs about 48kg and has a noticeable scar under his right eye.

Lewin also suffers from epilepsy and an undiagnosed mental disorder. At the time of his disappearance, he was wearing a black jacket, blue jeans and black Adidas takkies.

According to his aunt, Jackie, Lewin was first reported missing on Monday, March 2, at about 13:00, after he left home. “My mom and I went and reported him missing when none of the people who usually bring him home said they had not seen him,” she said.

The family has made ongoing efforts to locate him, but has not had any success. “We have done everything we possibly can to find him,” Jackie explained. “My brother, his girlfriend and my son went looking for him on the Saturday and came back with no answers or leads.”

She added that they reached out to local security company, Fidelity ADT, for assistance.

“I contacted the Fidelity ADT camera teams, and they sent back a photo of him under the bridge close to The Glen Shopping Centre. Unfortunately, the image is not very clear.”

Community members living in the area have also been questioned. “Some of the street people told me the other man in the photo could be someone named Nico, who stays near the rocks next to the garage,” Jackie said.

There have been other possible sightings reported, including at the nearby mine dumps and at Ma Ten Ten, but none have led to finding Lewin. “I’ve been following every lead I get, but it’s been a month and still no one has seen him,” she said.

Despite the lack of progress, the family continues their search efforts. Pamphlets have been distributed and areas have been searched repeatedly.

The family is now appealing to the community for help. Anyone who has seen Lewin or has information about his whereabouts is urged to come forward.

Anyone with information that may assist in locating Lewin is urged to contact the Vulnerable Citizens Support Initiative (VCSI) on 074 021 0111, or reach out to the investigating officer at Booysens SAPS, Captain S. Sekgobela, on 082 265 4322 or 082 772 6625.
