Lights on at UCPA of SA

The sponsorship will make a meaningful and lasting impact on the lives of the children.

The residents of the United Cerebral Palsy Association of South Africa (UCPA of SA) can now enjoy lights to brighten up their lives when outages strike.

The 29 residents have had to endure countless dark nights of load-shedding, with their only joy coming from TV or radio. Safety and care also go offline during an outage.

Rotary Club Johannesburg South 101, in partnership with ExpoGuys, raised the required funds for the first phase solar and battery installation comprising 12 x 550 JA solar panels, a 12 kW single-phase Sunsynk inverter and 2 x 5.1kw Revov batteries.

This installation will power essential services during outages for at least four hours. Rotary Club Johannesburg South 101 will now aim to switch to phase two of additional off-grid power, and for this, they need help in the form of donations.

Marie van den Berg, director of UCPA of SA, expressed her gratitude for the generous sponsorship of the solar and battery installation at their children’s home.

“Your commitment to sustainable energy and community upliftment has made a meaningful and lasting impact on the lives of the children in our care. Thanks to your support, we now have a reliable and environmentally friendly energy source, ensuring uninterrupted access to electricity.

“This has significantly improved daily living conditions, from providing consistent lighting to maintaining a safe and comfortable environment for the children and staff. Please extend our heartfelt thanks to everyone involved in making this initiative possible. We look forward to continuing this positive relationship in the future,” she said.
