Alberton’s Brandon wins WBC Africa title, brother Bryan edges tough fight
Brandon takes the majority decision over Charles Shinima, while Bryan defeats Tuvia Wewege in a thrilling light heavyweight battle.
South African junior middleweight champion Brandon Thysse from Alberton took on Namibian Charles Shinima for the WBC Africa Super Welterweight title.
The two went toe-to-toe in the main supporting fight of the Palace Pandemonium Box and Dine Tournament at Emperors Palace’s Centre Court on March 1.

In a street-style battle, Brandon got the upper hand against Shinima, especially in the latter rounds. He went home with a majority decision victory after the judges scored the fight 95-95, 96-94, 97-93 in the Alberton boxer’s favour.
In the first bout of the Rising Titans light heavyweight tournament held on the undercard of the Palace Pandemonium Box and Dine event, Alberton’s Bryan Thysse, Brandon’s brother, battled things out against Randburg’s Tuvia Wewege.

The two produced a battle that was a highlight of the evening and could be a contender for a fight of the year with a bloodied Bryan, from a cut above the right eye, winning by the narrowest of margins.
In a split decision, the judges scored the fight 75-76, 77-75, and 77-75 in Bryan’s favour, who kept his unbeaten record to 6-0.

Both fighters will be in action again on the undercard of the Coronation Bill at Emperors Palace on May 31, when Bryan faces Michael Head of Benoni to see who will be the Rising Titan while Wewege will fight Bonginkosi Nhlapo in the third or fourth place fight of the light heavyweight tournament.
