Alberton racers impress on the track
Meyersdal’s Rob van Aarle and Brackenhurst’s Bruce van Niekerk both competed in their respective categories.
Alberton’s motorsport racers recently took to the track to showcase their driving talent.
Meyersdal’s Rob van Aarle and Brackenhurst’s Bruce van Niekerk competed in their respective categories with impressive results.
Rob raced in his newly refurbished Ace Salvage 1969 Ford Escort in the Evapco Pursuit and HRSA sprint categories.
The car performed faultlessly throughout the day, which Rob attributes to the many hours he and his team spent preparing it.
He secured two second-place finishes in Class H, competing against tough rivals with cars better suited to Red Star’s long straights.
In the Pursuit event, Rob clinched first in class and first overall with wins in both heats. He looks forward to his next race at Zwartkops, where the tighter track layout is expected to suit his Escort better.
Bruce competed in the Formula Libre single-seater category, driving his Future 3 Concepts Omega. He also took part in Class D and won both races, finishing ahead of Hayden Archer in his 1991 Swift, who placed second in both heats.
Bruce placed second in the Index of Performance and now leads both the overall Formula Libre and Index of Performance standings.
“Thank you to my team, sponsors and supporters. Without their assistance and input, competing would not be possible,” said Bruce.
