Southern Stars seize historic victory

After 15 years of determination, the Southern Stars baseball team clinch their first-ever Gauteng Senior Reserve Cup in a thrilling 18–12 final against the undefeated Randburg Mets.

In a landmark moment for the club, the Southern Stars Senior Reserve baseball team have captured their first-ever Gauteng Senior Reserve Cup title, defeating the previously unbeaten Randburg Mets in a dramatic 18-12 showdown.

The victory, 15 years in the making, saw the Stars bring home the coveted trophy for the first time in the club’s history, a moment that will be remembered for years to come.

After a gruelling season from May through August, the Stars fought their way through a tough knockout stage to reach the final. Awaiting them was the formidable Randburg Mets side, who had gone undefeated all season and were favourites heading into the clash.

But the Stars, full of heart and determination, had other plans.

The game at the Gauteng Baseball Complex was a rollercoaster of emotion and energy. The Stars burst out of the gates with an early 7-2 lead after two innings, only for the Mets to claw their way back to an 8-7 lead by the third. The scoreboard levelled at 8-8 after the fourth, setting up a tense battle.

Randburg briefly edged ahead 10-9 in the fifth, but the Stars responded with an emphatic surge, scoring seven unanswered runs in the sixth to take control at 16-10. Another two runs in the seventh pushed the lead to 18-11.
Despite a final push from Randburg in the last inning, the Stars’ defence held strong, sealing a sensational 18-12 win and sending players, coaches and supporters into jubilation.

The club offered heartfelt thanks to its loyal supporters, fellow teams and dedicated coaching staff for their unwavering support throughout the season. A special mention was also made for the club’s sponsors: AO Pay, Feinschmecker Deli Meats and Hooked Digital, whose backing played a key role in making the 2025 campaign a success.

Taryn said that the Southern Stars’ victory is more than just a championship win; it is a testament to perseverance, passion and community spirit. The club has officially etched its name among Gauteng baseball’s finest.
