Love is in the air in Sunninghill
SUNNINGHILL – A relaxed afternoon in Sunninghill Gardens Park saw a number of couples and families enjoying music to celebrate Valentine’s Day a day early.
Sunninghill residents got to enjoy A Day in the Park on a sunny Sunday afternoon in celebration of Valentine’s Day on February 13.

The afternoon was filled with a number of locals equipped with picnic blankets and baskets while enjoying performances by music students. Love songs commemorating Valentine’s Day were on the set list for the afternoon.

Cindy van Latum from Urban Spaces was heavily involved in organising and planning the afternoon’s events.
She said it is the first time the community is celebrating Valentine’s Day with a picnic in the park in this manner, even though Urban Spaces has hosted other community events. “I think even though this is the first time we are hosting something for Valentine’s Day, we were hoping for a bigger turnout this afternoon, but I think we still had a lot of people come through today.

“We even invited a school teacher with some of his students to provide entertainment for us this afternoon, and we’ve heard nothing but positive feedback. I’m really hoping we can do it bigger next year.”
Van Latum said the next event in the community will be a Halloween celebration which promises to be bigger and better.
