Lara Emmett’s passion for equestrian excellence at Chartwell Stables

At Chartwell Stables, the timeless connection between horse and rider comes alive through instructor Lara Emmett, who has transformed her childhood love for eventing into a mission to empower young equestrians.

Chartwell Stables embodies the spirit of horsemanship and the unbreakable bond between rider and horse.
This unique relationship is brought to life through the passion of Lara Emmett a young instructor who has been riding practically since she could walk.

Born and raised in a horsey family with a deep-seated love for eventing, she has turned her childhood pastime into a lifelong mission to inspire and educate the next generation of equestrians.

“I’ve been horsing since I was in diapers. When my dad got a pony who hadn’t been backed yet, he asked me to help. That pivotal moment set me on the path of competing and exploring the full potential of my riding abilities,” she said.

Her father has been more than just a mentor; he has been a beacon of influence and motivation in her equestrian journey. “I aspire to be as influential as he is, especially in sharing the love of this sport and the incredible bond we form with horses.”

As an instructor, she embodies the essence of true horsemanship, constantly eager to expand her knowledge and skills. “Every day spent working with animals teaches you something new. I attend clinics led by renowned equestrians that help me grow not only as a rider but as a compassionate coach.”

What sets her apart is her unwavering commitment to her students, many of whom are children still discovering their passion for riding. “Equestrian sport has a unique way of encouraging kids to develop social skills, build confidence, and experience the beauty of nature.
“By bonding with these remarkable creatures, children learn how teamwork with a horse can lead to a beautiful partnership. It’s a special journey when a rider and horse truly become one.”

It’s important to understand each individual’s development to foster growth, not destruction. Always find the love and laughter in everything you do with horses; after all, that’s why we love this sport.”

Her words of wisdom for aspiring equestrians are simple yet profound. “Don’t give up. Absorb as much knowledge as possible. Listen to your horse, they are incredibly intelligent creatures. Spend time with them both on and off the saddle to understand their quirks and moods. When a horse acts out, it’s often trying to communicate something important.”

With eyes set on the future, she has personal goals of returning to competition with a new horse while continuing to guide her students toward their full potential. “I would love to see more people involved in different disciplines like eventing. It’s an amazing sport that deserves more recognition and participation.”

Her journey has taken her from Treverton College, where she immersed herself in the equestrian world, to the thriving environment of Chartwell Stables. Here, she builds cross-country jumps, hosts shows and brings enjoyment to students through fun activities such as pony camps and outrides.

With numerous competitions in dressage, cross-country, and show jumping under her belt, her accomplishments mirror the dedication she instils in her students and she looks forward to nurturing the next crop of equestrians.
