Crawford Fourways Grade 7s lead with PYP exhibition
Young changemakers at Crawford International Fourways act through the UN’s sustainable development goals, inviting the community to support their drive for books, food, and essentials.
Crawford International Fourways’ Grade 7 learners are stepping into the role of global citizens as they host their annual primary years programme exhibition (PYPX), a celebration of their learning journey and their growing commitment to community change.
This year’s exhibition theme: How we express ourselves, links to the United Nation’s sustainable development goals, and focuses on the central idea: Media shapes our perspectives and actions, influencing how we express ourselves and engage with the world.

These aren’t just words. Esona Sidwaba, Tanay Patel, Thando Malinga, and Jade Yako have put their learning into action by launching a sustainability-focused community project, aimed at helping those in need within the Fourways area, calling on community members to donate pre-loved books to help schools in need.
When asked what inspired them, the team said: “What inspired us to start this project is seeing children in need of proper education and books. Since we have the resources and opportunities that they don’t, we decided to lend a helping hand.”
The donated books will go directly to children in schools where resources are scarce. “We don’t have a specific target. We just hope people donate books in good condition. We don’t mind the genre, as long as they are appropriate.”

Community members are invited to be part of this initiative by donating items at Crawford International Fourways, where drop-offs can be made at the school security. Donations will be accepted until September 5.
They are collecting: books, non-perishable foods, clothing, sanitary pads, and basic toiletries.
