Jordan Welle wants to take his rugby dream to Spain
Local teen Jordan Welle has been selected to represent the Barbarions Club Rugby Team on their 2025 Spain tour, but he needs the community’s help to get there.
Seventeen-year-old Fourways rugby player Jordan Welle has been selected to represent the prestigious Barbarions Club Rugby Team on their 2025 tour to Spain.
Jordan described his achievement as ‘incredible’ and a step towards his lifelong dream of one day wearing the green and gold.
To make this dream a reality, Jordan is trying to raise R55 000 to cover his travel and accommodation for the tour, and he is calling on the community for support through his BackaBuddy campaign.

“I was proud of myself when I found out I had made the team. I knew I deserved my spot because I had worked hard, but none of this would have been possible without my amazing teammates, great coaches, and all of my family’s sacrifices,” he said.
Rugby has been part of his life since Grade 4, discovering the life-changing impact of the sport as he grew. “Rugby means everything to me. It has made me a better person and has helped me build bonds with people all over Gauteng.”
In preparation for the Spain tour, Jordan has been training harder than ever, focusing on improving his physical strength and mental resilience. “I’ve told myself that this is only the start, and while there will be challenges, it’s nothing I can’t handle. Physically, I have been working extra hard on and off the field because no team is ever easy to play.

“I’m looking forward to watching other teams to see what parts of my game I can improve on, and off the field, and I can’t wait to explore the beautiful towns in Spain.”

His journey hasn’t been without challenges, including injuries such as torn foot ligaments, a broken nose, and shoulder muscle strains. “I’ve learned that the comeback is always greater than the setback, and you should always trust in God because He has a plan for your life.”
Jordan is humbled by the support of the community and is calling for any help, big or small, to get him onto the plane to Spain. “Every rand counts and brings me closer to my goal. Your contribution can help make my dream a reality, and I am grateful to everyone who believes in me and my passion for rugby.”
