SANBS needs your blood urgently

Calling all Germiston residents to come and donate blood and become regular blood donors.

The South African National Blood Service (SANBS) relies greatly on members of the public who meet the requirements of being a blood donor to ensure that there is always adequate blood available in the country for patients in need of transfusions.

The Germiston Donor Centre has seen a decline in the number of donors in recent months and this has had a huge impact on the available blood stocks.

As we approach the festive season, SANBS knows that this will continue to drop and the organisation is, therefore, appealing to all those who are eligible to come through to the Germiston Donor Centre (in the Lambton Court Shopping Centre, at the corner of Webber and Beacon roads, Lambton) to donate blood.

To become a blood donor – you need to:

  • be between the ages of 16 and 65;
  • weigh more than 50kg;
  • be in good health;
  • consider your blood safe for transfusion to a patient;
  • lead a sexually safe lifestyle.

The Germiston Donor Centre can be contacted on 011 827-8335.

The centre is open at the following times:

  • Monday: 1pm to 4.30pm.
  • Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday: 8.30am to 4.30pm.
  • Thursday: 8.30am to 6.30pm.
  • Saturday: 8.30am to 1pm.
