DEMS Spokesperson William Ntladi said the driver sustained stable body trauma injuries during the incident.
City of Ekurhuleni Disaster and Emergency Management Services responded to a vehicle fire on the N12 freeway eastbound just before the Edenvale Road off-ramp on June 28.
Firefighters from the Bedfordview Fire Station, consisting of five crew members, were dispatched after receiving reports of a vehicle engulfed in flames.
Upon arrival, emergency responders found a red hatchback vehicle well alight, with the male driver standing a short distance away from the burning vehicle.

Firefighters used a suppression attack hose-line connected to the fire engine to extinguish the blaze and successfully brought the fire under control.
DEMS spokesperson William Ntladi said the driver sustained stable body trauma injuries during the incident.
He received medical treatment on scene from paramedics before being transported by ambulance to the nearest medical facility for further care.
“The exact cause of the crash remains under investigation. However, according to preliminary information provided by the driver, he allegedly lost control of the vehicle and crashed into the middle concrete barrier before the vehicle came to a stop and caught fire.

“Traffic flow on both the eastbound and westbound lanes was temporarily affected due to heavy smoke emitted from the burning wreckage. Once the fire was extinguished and the situation stabilised, the scene was handed over to law enforcement and road agencies for further investigation and road clearance,” said Ntladi.
