WATCH: Council fails to pass budget for a third time

The budget received 100 votes in favour and 111 against, with another sitting expected within seven days.

The council of the City of Ekurhuleni has again failed to adopt the municipal budget, despite convening a special sitting aimed at breaking the deadlock that has stalled the municipality’s financial planning process.

The extraordinary sitting followed two previous unsuccessful attempts to pass the budget and was held amid heightened political tension and public interest.
