Spreading joy to the community

Marathon informal settlement residents got a special visit recently.

It was all about the spirit of Mandela Day, last Saturday, in the Marathon informal settlement.

Children and the elderly were visited by the Primrose SAPS and members of El-Shammah Ministries International.

The community was entertained by young children doing traditional Xhosa and Zulu dances, and a drama presented by the Primrose SAPS Crime Prevention Youth Desk.

The police gave various safety tips and Pastor Elias Leholo gave a brief sermon before the community was served soup and rolls.

When he addressed the elderly, Const Styles Maome, the communications officer for the Primrose SAPS, encouraged them to report all criminal activities to the police.

“People should not see the police as enemies, because the police are there to serve them and see to it that they are safe,” Maome said.

“The community must not harbour criminals – even if it is a close relative, they should report them.”
